What to know when coming to Pakwach
Pakwach, located in northwestern Uganda, is a gateway to some of the country’s most stunning natural wonders. Whether you’re visiting for adventure, wildlife, or cultural experiences, here’s what you need to know before you arrive.
1. Getting to Pakwach
Pakwach is accessible by road and air:
By Road: The town is about 6-7 hours drive from Kampala via the Kampala-Gulu highway. The roads are generally in good condition, but a 4x4 vehicle is recommended for certain routes, especially in the rainy season.
By Air: The closest airstrip is Pakuba Airstrip, located within Murchison Falls National Park. Scheduled and chartered flights operate from Entebbe International Airport, reducing travel time to about 1.5 hours.
2. Entry Requirements
Most visitors require a visa, which can be obtained online via the Uganda e-Visa system. https://www.ugandaimmigration.org/apply-visa
A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory. Other recommended vaccines include Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, and routine travel immunizations.
3. Weather & Best Time to Visit
Pakwach / Murchison Falls has a warm climate throughout the year, but the best time to visit is the beginning of March to June when wildlife viewing it as it's best. The rainy seasons pick up October to November and can make some roads less accessible. January to February is the hottest and driest time of year.
